ADAPTOR

ADAPTOR Program

TransTeq’s ADAPTOR program is an Advanced Drive Alternate-fuel Plug-in Technology Outreach for Renewable-energy. ADAPTOR takes TransTeq’s hybrid technology and combines it with the latest in next-generation components, renewable energy and alternative fuels. TransTeq’s patented hybrid technology is both scaleable and adaptive. Its architecture embraces technology advancement, enabling ongoing integration of new individual components and utilization by all types of urban vehicles.   ADAPTOR focuses this proven technology on medium-duty vehicles with multiple possibilities for body configuration and use as delivery vehicles, utility trucks and fifteen passenger shuttle/demand response buses.  Series hybrid technology, with its full electric drive, enables the additional combination and benefits of plug-in capabilities, advanced propulsion strategies, clean fuel engines and renewable energy. In summary, ADAPTOR paves the way to Sustainable Vehicle Technology.

Advanced hybrid-electric technology powers the shuttle efficiently and with minimal emissions. A high efficiency generator and engine operating on alternative fuel was installed. The generator charges a pack of advanced Li-Polymer batteries to power the shuttle. A high efficiency electric traction motor powered entirely by the battery pack propels the drive wheels. The hybrid system captures energy normally wasted during idle, eliminates particulate emissions from engine transients, uses regenerative braking to capture energy during braking to charge the batteries, and allows operation with the engine off in environmentally sensitive areas, or when the batteries are sufficiently charged.

The ADAPTOR program intends to deploy medium-duty shuttles for transportation demonstrations. These shuttles will showcase advanced plug-in hybrid electric technology, and may be supported by biofuels capable engines and charged at night using grid supplied green energy from renewables. The ADAPTOR vehicles employ the latest evolution of TransTeq’s series hybrid technology on a more accessible, easily deployable, mainstream chassis. Vehicles may be involved in a larger, existing program or an independent demonstrator fleet available in urban centers to promote the vehicles, technologies and sponsors.

Additional prospective markets for ADAPTOR buses also include mass transit, “pickup on demand” services, specialized market transportation, military applications, urban delivery and other uses requiring medium-duty vehicles.
